The evening kicked off with a very close tussle between the Squirrels and Foxes with the Squirrels edging home 6 – 5.
On the other mat, the Buzzards, who had been on their way to Westbury and needed a late change of course to make it in time, came up against those treacherous Weasels. The Buzzards took a little time to find their range, by which time it was too late, their opponents had pounced with a 12 – 2 win.
In the second round, the Foxes came out fighting and looking for their first points of the evening. However, the Buzzards were circling their prey and swooped in to carry off the spoils 9 – 4. Across the hall, the Squirrels were looking to build on their good start, but the Weasels were up to no good and stole the match 13 – 4.
After a short break, the Squirrels and Buzzards engaged in a lively encounter and matched each other bowl for bowl, with the Squirrels eventually running out the winners 9 – 6.
In the final match, those cocky and overconfident Weasels finally got their comeuppance. In a very close game the Foxes totally out bowled their opponents, who, despite trying all their usual underhand tricks, were beaten 6 – 5.
